warning in central harford county in bel air. that includes bel air, jarrettsville. we're looking at pictures of incredible stuff. where are we? we're at -- this is port avenue. work has been going on. we'll go to i-95 and 43 where the road has been backed up all afternoon. we had a combination of weather and an accident at 152. 95 has backed everything up. traffic is parked northbound on maryland 43 right at i-95. that's because of an earlier truck fire that was caused by an accident, caused by all the rain. traffic is at a standstill f -- stand still. if you have a loved one who

hasn't left downtown, you might want to tell them to take another route. let's go over to mike masco with a look. maryland's most powerful radar is detecting rotation over central harford county until 6:30. also a warning, i believe over west central baltimore county until 6:30, an active tornado warning, an active situation on going. if you're in the town of bel air or within the region from jarrettsville to king wood, you need to take cover now. you need to move to an interior room and certainly avoid windows. if you're outdoors or at a mobile home, you need to seek a sturdier shelter because of this developing storm.

maryland's most powerful radar. let's show you some of the rotating winds. we see a very strong rotation denoted south of bel air. this is moving toward the north and east at 25 miles an hour. storm track shows it at fallston. bel air on top of you at 6:13. forest hill airport to harford county airport under the gun. churchville road, maryland golf and country club, and those are all the areas that he'll be watching, an active tornado warning. this is for west central baltimore county and central -- all of central harford county until 6:30 this evening. we have an active flash flooding for baltimore city and newly issued tornado warnings around anne arundel and howard county. let's take a look at those cells, tornado warnings from

these cells. it moves to the south of the city limits right over glen burnie. we'll put a storm track on this and moving into ferndale at 6:-- 6:28. a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for several counties. harford, baltimore and anne arundel county. we'll be tracking the storm, giving you another update in a few minutes. we'll show you a live picture of dulaney valley road. this is a view. there was a lot of standing water. traffic, as you can see, is at a stand still going one direction. it's amazing how fast this rain has come down and caused a lot of flash flooding. just a lot of stuff coming. we're hearing reports of storm drains backing up causing the mess. now we're still under a severe

witnesses reported two men breaking into a house on south chester near holy rosary. police officers caught the two in the act. >> officers responded. as they were responding, they found what we suspect to be two white mail suspects. one encountered the officer who was shot multiple times. homicide detectives responded to the scene. it is unclear at this point where the second suspect -- there are individuals at the scene that were being questioned. the incident is being investigated by homicide detectives. the second suspect is still on the loose. we will continue to follow this case through the evening and bring you updates on abc2 news at abc2news.com. today marks the official start of the 2012 atlantic

hurricane season. we've already had two named storms. agents want it make sure you're ready. noaa predicts a good chance of seeing a good handful of image hurricanes. be prepared with a radio so you can hear updates, a three-day supply of food and wart. and fill your car's gas tank ahead of the storm. >> just about the only way to get into locust point is open just in the nick of time. it marks the start of the huge and long by centennial -- bicentennial celebration. >> the beaten up sign faces away from traffic. after nine long months, the ford avenue bridge is finally open. >> we needed to get it replaced.

d-kuebler, abc2 news. >> the race starts at navy marine corps and winds its way around the city. you should expect delays near the annapolis overlook. well, the first meeting of the panel looking to expand gambling in maryland has wrapped. the members were urged to wait and see how they perform before adding a fix. they are looking into the possibility of adding table games like blackjack. if lawmakers pass things this will have to be approved by voters in november. on sunday it's the fourth annual polo match and family outing from 1 to 6.

we're looking at the radar. the thunderstorms, a lot of heavy, heavy weather has been moving through. you have thunderstorms at 6:47. oxford 7:21, an amazing afternoon with heavy wind, heavy rain. up in the bel air area, cheryl conner. what are you seeing? >> hoping to make it easier on the roads. we are really seeing it come in now. the rain is quite heavy. we're seeing the thunder and lightning, which is why we're on the phone. i did send in a picture. i think you guys have that. you can see a car coming through some high standing water. the drivers are having a tough

time. we're at 543 and there are some county crews. they're monitoring the radar. with we snow 9345,000 -- know is 95,000 cars have come out. a tornado watch is in effect for harford county until 6:30. a tornado warning is in effect until 10:00 and a flash flood watch until midnight, so certainly a lot to monitor up here. harford county has a lot of low lying areas like havre de grace, so the southwest water rescue team is on standby. there's not a whole lot they chan do in advance. it is a lot of wait and see and monitoring, which is what we're doing with the emergency operations. so if you're on standby waiting to see what happens.

what we're seeing and i don't know if you can hear that. i'm in the live truck but we're hearing the thunder and seeing the rain come down, so certainly very eventful in forest hill. we'll keep our eyes on it and bring you the latest. >> you said they're monitoring the situation. they had some problems in other parts like carroll county where they had tree limbs down. any reports of anything like that in harford county? >> so far, no the storm hit this area, i would say about 15, 20 minutes ago. there wasn't a whole lot to speak of. so we're starting to see it come down. i dead have one guy come up and give me tip on where to go, one of the lower lying areas where we might see some of that happen. we'll cope you posted by way of twitter, facebook and send you the pictures as soon as we get

them. >> once again, we want to update you. there is a tornado warning in our area, several parts of our viewing area until 6:30 in anne arundel county, baltimore county. you got a lot of heavy winds. a lot of folks, you need it take some shelter. you're looking at a live picture of maryland route 43. this is a lot of heavy backup. there was a truck fire on 152. it caused a lot of problems between the rain and the truck fire. traffic is at a stand still. it's backed up from mountain road 152 down to whitemarsh almost down to the 695 split. if you have a loved one on their way home, you may want to give them a call. they may want to take an alternate route to avoid this

heavy rain and truck fire and big mess. we'll continue to follow that for the rest of the evening. let's go to another shot. this is dulaney valley road across the street from the campus. this is the view. look at this. traffic is stopped because of standing wart. you can see a patch of it right there if you look to the upper part of the screen. the cars are going through. there's standing wart all over the place, not just in towson, loch raven standing water. folks, if you're going to be out driving, make sure you take your time. you can flood a car out in six inches of rain, so you have to be careful. this is at goucher at dulaney valley road.

>> these storms are going through what's called training. it's one storm after another after another. that's what's producing the flash flooding. we want to address this tornado warning in effect for the southern city limits now. just keeping an eye on the wind velocity scope that take last look at winds within the mid-level and upper level. i'm in the seeing a good looking picture in terms of rotation. at 6:30, the weather service will allow it to, spire. right now there's not much evidence of this intensifying but we still have that tornado warning in effect. that's up until 6:30 for, stream northern anne arundel counties, stream southeastern howard county. if there is a tornado associated with this, it's going to be rain

wrapped and hard to see. the situation has been the flash flooding across the area. i want to break down the watches and warnings. they drop that front warning, which is good news but replaced this with numerous flash flood warnings. this is a flash flood warning until 9:15. earlier we said 8:15, but we're going to see further flogd. carroll county until 9:15. howard county 9:15 and pg county and to the west. we've seen a trem machine dust amount of rain across the -- tremendous amount of rain across the area. we go back over to maryland's most powerful radar. still have heavy bands of weather on top of the city limits. we have to keep an eye on it. this is going to start to move

into howard county moving toward the north, northeast out of silver spring and the north and west. eventually it will get into parts of garrett park at 6:28, capable of producing a tornado as it moves to the north. the story for the most part and for most of the area is the flooding and the flash flood warning that we have in place. toward the north all of harford county from bel air, this is earlier from jarrettsville to kingsville. weave lost the rotation -- we've lost the rotation. minor rotation as it crosses into the pennsylvania, maryland border. right now we'll continue to address flash flooding as the main concern. new severe thunderstorm warning. this is out toward cecil county, cecil county weather service has

just put this out. you can see the cell for the of bel air. earlier it was a tornado warning, moving toward rising sun. as of 6:15, doppler radar indicated it was capable of producing quarter sized hail, damaging winds in excess of 60, 70 miles an hour. it's 11 miles southwest. right now -- lost that mafnlgt it's 11 miles toward the northeast. this is moving rapidly toward cecil county, northeastern harford county, get ready for the potential of this storm rolling through. tornado watch for the entire area. we'll get into the details on that and the second recount coming up in a little bit. >> just to give folks a an idea,

just got reports from mta that a power outage by fallen trees has caused problems for the marc train. we saw it earlier because of that truck crash by route 152. now the marc train will be messed up. it will be a nightmare for commuters. they're working to clear limbs off the track. it's going to be a lot of slow going throughout our area. we've had people all over it from the beginning. christian schaffer is in taneytown. what are you seeing? >> we're in another round of heavy, heavy rain. it is really coming down. earlier there was a report of an

actual tornado that had touched down in this area, still unconfirmed at this hour. however00 i decided to roll out this way to see if there's damage from the tornado or straight line winds. we did see damage earlier in the finksburg area. the power is out in a number of locations including one part that's causing a lot of problems is on 140. it's 91. the power is out. state police was drctsing traffic there. of course, the light is out so the traffic was backing new all directions. they're in finksburg. not far away from that intersection, i shot a picture of a bunch of trees, like a whole grove of trees. this was the one earlier in the afternoon. so some damage there, homes in that area as well. that's in the figure ofsberg

area of -- finksberg area of carroll county. there's the potential possible tornado that may have touched down in the taneytown, union bridge area. will look for damage over here. like i said, the other concern is the flash flooding with that rain. , especially from the low lying area. so it's not over yet, rosie. you're getting more rain. you mentioned the one intersection, but there's a lot of low lying areas. any concern about that right now? >> right now i'm driving through

a very rural area a couple of farm fields to my left and to my right. some of that moisture is rolling right off of there and going down to lower ground. so right now, i mean, i'm not seeing issues. i have seen another area, issues where the water has gathered quickly. some of the roads and bridges are kind of low anyway. so they're near some of those low lying creeks and streams. that is one of the major concerns going foorksd officials tell -- forward, officials telling people not to drive through that. you never know. it does happen. in the absence of any large scale tornado damaging building deal which doesn't appear to have been going on, trees down, free -- trees landing on houses,

that's relatively mean for damage. you could get a dangerous situation with someone trying to drive through one of these flooded out roads and emergency crews would have to come to their rescue. that's probably the biggest concern. >> the storm's not over and with darkness coming, there's a lot or danger. christian schaffer reporting live now from taneytown. we've also got another tornado warning. >> harford county back under a tornado warning. doppler radar indicating some twisting of the winds. this is going to go into effect until 7:00. it's newly issued. newly issued tornado warning, severe thunderstorm warning cecil county, harford county until 7:00, not 6:30.

doppler indicating a thunderstorm that's beginning to show signs of rotation moving to the northeast at 20. if you're listening to us in whiteford, you're under the gun. dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing a tornado. cecil county, you're also under a see -- severe thunderstorm watch. we'll switch it over to the velocity watch. this is where we're seeing a strong indication of rotation north of bel air moving into the pennsylvania maryland life north of 95. right in this vicinity we're talking about a dangerous storage dangerous rotation as it's moving toward the north and the east. and a you more towns are listed

as it moves through and we'll be keeping an eye on it. let's move over to the tornado watch. this will stay in place because of the storms many i want to bring it back over to the warning map. notice what's going on out west. that second line of storms that we've been talking about is starting to press in toward the west toward deep creek. we're seeing new warnings. so these storms are testing tornadic levels. as this pushes toward the east, we could see additional warnings starting to fire up. you can see some of the warnings going late into the evening, just a whole mess of weather. westminster, manchester seeing very heavy rains in an area between three to six inches of rain. this will pivot to the north and east. the latest radar scan showing the severe weather over central and harford county moving into extreme northwestern cecil county. let's switch over to this. we'll
